After changing some of Mighty Alpha Droid’s visual designs such as the application icon and text logo, we are now going to talk about gameplay and usability improvements.

Pressing the “Play” button will direct you to the level map, where an overview of the whole tower is laid out for the players. We improved the interface of the tower by adding different level indicators. We used Alpha Droid‘s face to show our players where they currently are.

In this case, we are presently at every game tester’s favorite level: level one.

Another new feature is the prize pool. The prize pool can be easily noticed at the upper right corner of the screen once you start playing the game. Basically what it does is it stores the coins you’ve gathered from your battles and doubles it at the end of each level. The prize pool was brought up by our game developer, Vonn. His idea was to give players something to look forward to at the end of each round.

The enemy seems unimpressed with Mighty Alpha Droid’s prize pool earnings.

All the coins you earn from submitting words goes into the prize pool. Player has an option to double the amount in the prize pool by watching an advertisement video at the end of the level. The prize pool will turn to zero once the player exits the application.

We would like to challenge players even further, especially with composing words. With this in mind, we added a new kind of letter tile and we made an internal working term called hot potato tile. “Officially, the game recognizes them as volatile panels that overload and explode after remaining unused for several turns,” Jed explains. Hot potatoes are tiles which explode if in any case the players was not able to use it. If this happens, the explosion will damage Mighty Alpha Droid and reduce his health points. This just made staying alive in the game a lot harder.

A stands for “AAAGHHH! The tile’s going to explode!”
